How To Help Puppies Adjust To Wearing Clothes for the First Time
Crunch is just a baby, and he's still got so much to learn in life, and one thing on that long list is how to adjust to wearing clothes because he's adorably confused.
According to the American Kennel Club, there are many clothing options for dogs, and a variety of reasons a pup might wear them. For Crunch, it's meant to be cozy and comfy for bedtime (and probably for photos, too), and there are a few rules to follow to help your pup adjust.
First, make sure the clothes fit and are safe. The club says that all clothes, for any reason, should fit well and not be too tight. They shouldn't be too loose or baggy either, so your dog doesn't trip on them. If everything fits as it should, the next step is to introduce the clothes in steps, first allowing your dog to smell the outfit before putting it on. Give them lots of praise for being interested in the outfit and then build on that excitement. Then, you can hold the clothes in your hand and keep that praise going.
The final step is to put the clothes on your dog, maybe just starting with one part of the outfit and letting them adjust to that first. Praise your pup, give treats, and make sure they're doing OK before moving on to the next part.
In the end, hopefully, taking things slowly and giving lots of love, patience, and time, your pup will be just as excited to wear their clothes as they are to go for a walk!
