Rodrigo De Paul is set to miss Inter Miami's match against Chicago Fire FC as the club manages his recovery following Argentina's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Rodrigo De Paul is likely to sit out Inter Miami's MLS game against Chicago Fire FC as the club works to manage his workload following Argentina's World Cup final appearance in 2026.

The Argentine midfielder was instrumental in the tournament as Argentina lost the final to Spain 1-0. After the World Cup, Inter Miami chose not to rush De Paul back into action, as FIFA and FIFPRO's player welfare guidelines suggest that players need proper recovery after a hectic international season. FIFA's Rest Guidelines Influence Inter Miami's Decision

FIFA and FIFPRO agreed on new measures for the welfare of players in 2025, which include:

  • A minimum 72-hour gap between matches.
  • A recommended 21-day offseason or recovery period following the end of a player's season.

The governing body also noted: "This period must be managed individually by each club and player, also depending on their match schedule and taking into account the applicable collective agreements."

No Injury Concern for De Paul

Inter Miami has not indicated that De Paul is injured.

Rather, it is reported that both De Paul and Lionel Messi are being given a break from their World Cup duties. De Paul's return has not been set in stone by head coach Guillermo Hoyos, who said the club will take its time to recover him before bringing him back into full training.

De Paul is also expected to miss Inter Miami's next MLS game against Chicago Fire FC, and the club plans to return him once he's ready.
