Connecticut Sun rookie Nell Angloma is facing disciplinary action from the WNBA after committing a reckless closeout during Wednesday's game against Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever.
Angloma, the 12th overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, was assessed a Flagrant 1 foul with 3:38 remaining in the first quarter. It came after Mitchell made a 3-pointer that gave Indiana a 24-19 lead.
The 20-year-old French forward tried to block Mitchell's 3-point attempt, but she failed and on went down in the Fever guard's landing space. It was initially called a common foul before the referees upgraded it to a flagrant foul after reviewing the incident.
Mitchell proceeded to complete the four-point play and increase the Fever's lead.
It was Angloma's first flagrant foul of the season. Regardless, she's due to pay a fine as a result of the call.
According to the WNBA's rules, each flagrant point is punishable by a $500 fine. A Flagrant 1 accounts for one flagrant point, while a Flagrant 2 accounts for two flagrant points.
The WNBA's flagrant-point limit is four points. Once a player reaches that number, they will be automatically suspended for one game. Furthermore, if a player commits a Flagrant 2 foul after having already accrued three flagrant points, they will receive a two-game suspension.
Sure enough, the Sun will need to be more careful moving forward if they want to avoid having players suspended. Aside from Angloma, Brittney Griner and Aaliyah Edwards each have one flagrant point. On the other hand, forward Diamond Miller already has three technical fouls, just four away from the technical foul limit.
