When you look at the entire offseason, and compare each team’s changes that they made, the Buffalo Bills had some of the most eye-catching changes considering the fact that they are one of the league’s top contenders. Despite them consistently making the playoffs, they kept falling short of a Super Bowl and it’s a reason why they moved on from Sean McDermott.
The biggest domino to fall within the organization once McDermott was fired was the promotion of Joe Brady, who then was in charge of bringing in a new coaching staff and figuring out a plan with Brandon Beane to see what the roster would look like.
This offseason for the team featured a bunch of changes, with a majority of them being on the defense. However, the offense did land their new No. 1 receiver in DJ Moore. Some decisions that the Bills made in both free agency and the draft may have caught fans by surprise, but there are four additions that could look extremely smart by the time September rolls around.

OLB Bradley Chubb
The biggest free agency splash that the Bills made was signing OLB Bradley Chubb, who agreed to sign with the Bills not too long after being released by the Miami Dolphins. Chubb is a perfect fit for the new defensive scheme. While there is the obvious injury concern (he’s missed a good amount of time in his career), there is no denying that when he is on the field that he is productive.
While he missed the 2024 season, he had 19.5 sacks in his last two full seasons with Miami. Buffalo also brought in extra help so Chubb doesn’t need to be on the field all the time, keeping him fresh for crucial moments.
CB Davison Igbinosun
The Bills shocked the fanbase when they traded back up into the second round to select Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun. This selection caused a lot of confusion amongst Bills Mafia because cornerback wasn’t a big need to address early on in the draft. However, Igbinsoun is one of those players that is physical and is great in press coverage.
The expectation is that Buffalo could move away from their heavy zone coverage and Igbinosun could be a great fit. Not to mention, if Maxwell Hairston doesn’t take a step forward in his second season, then Igbinosun will provide some competition.
S C.J. Gardner-Johnson
One of the most overlooked signings that isn’t getting enough attention is the Bills signing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to help bring some intensity to this defense. This unit has its solid points, but it felt like there wasn’t that edge that made the defense aggressive. With Gardner-Johnson coming him, pairing him with Cole Bishop should bring a lot of passion to this secondary.
DC Jim Leonhard
Notice a trend here? It’s all defense, and we finish it off with the new defensive coordinator that will have control of the scheme and the success of each of these players listed. Jim Leonhard returns to Buffalo as a coach, and he gets his chance to lead this defense. Coming from the Denver Broncos the last two years, he has been a part of the best defense in the league. Now gets to bring his knowledge to Western New York and help turn this unit around for the better.
