With training camp approaching at the end of the month for the Buffalo Bills, there are still concerns about some of their returning players and their status due to injuries they suffered in 2025. It was also the final year the Bills had to play on artificial turf, which caused some awful non-contact injuries that ruined the seasons of some prominent players.
This year, the team will transition to a grass field stadium for the first time, which is expected to improve player performance and lessen their risk of injury. While some players may still have to get used to the new surface, it should also give them confidence that they will be much safer when playing for the Bills this season.
On WGR 550 AM, Sal Capaccio discussed some of the key players and their notable injuries heading into this season's training camp.
4 key players ready to compete come training camp
1.) K Tyler Bass
Tyler Bass is expected to be the Bills' starting kicker in 2026, despite not kicking in OTAs or minicamp. Bass had hip and groin discomfort last season and spent the year on IR.
The Bills will be able to see him kick before the regular season, as he will have seven training camp practices at St. John Fisher University. Three preseason games, a blue-and-red scrimmage, and an open practice are all opportunities to test his leg and see if it has healed since last year.
2.) WR Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell comes to the Bills with tremendous potential and may already be NFL-ready, particularly in the screen game. After some problems to start rookie minicamp due to an evident leg injury, he began carving out his own path during the offseason practices.
As the rookie put all his talents on display during OTAs, it will be interesting to see what he brings to the Bills' training camp. But fans should still worry about whether his injury is fully healed and how it will affect his regular-season performance. Still, it's worth keeping an eye on when training camp starts.
3.) S Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop has spent the previous two training camps dealing with injuries. Fortunately, he stayed healthy in 2025 and began to blossom right before our eyes. The former 2024 second-round pick underwent an offseason procedure on his knee, but should be ready for training camp.
The Bills fans, though, might be holding their breath, hoping 2026 will not be the third straight training camp in which Bishop starts with another setback to kick off camp.
4.) LB Dorian Williams
Dorian Williams will most likely be the starting linebacker next to Terrel Bernard in the Bills' new 3-4 aggressive scheme. That was possibly hampered early, as Williams was on the sideline with an evident lower-leg injury during OTAs and minicamp.
His unavailability does make room for rookie Kaleb Elarms-Orr, but the Bills need their already limited depth at linebacker to be 100% ready to kick off the regular season. Otherwise, the Bills may have to rely on their defensive line-edge rushers more to stop the run and not have to count on their sparse linebacker corps to try to save the day at the second level.
