When the 2026 NFL Draft was arriving, the Buffalo Bills had to have a great gameplan for how they would address their needs that they had. Fans were expecting a lot of defensive additions since there was a new scheme coming under Jim Leonhard, who will be tasked to fix the issues that the Bills defense has had for many years.
Not only did the Bills manage to walk away with ten players (despite only having seven selections going into the draft), they were able to bring in some impactful players as well. Mostly on the defensive side of the ball, but they also managed to bring in a potential steal at wide receiver.
Last year’s rookie class for the Bills was underwhelming, except for two players in Jackson Hawes and Deone Walker. So, the Bills are hoping that these rookies coming in will deliver more.
Bills' rookie class set to make some noise going into 2026
Justin Melo from Sports Illustrated recently created a list of rookie classes from this past draft that are “ready to steal the spotlight at training camp” and Melo has the Bills as one of those teams.
"The Buffalo Bills' defense has been the unit to let them down in the playoffs, so it wasn't surprising to see Brandon Beane utilize his first two selections on that side of the ball. EDGE TJ Parker and cornerback Davison Igbinosun should quickly compete for reps. Wide receiver Skyler Bell could push veterans Joshua Palmer and Keon Coleman, and linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr projects as a future starter with Dorian Williams on an expiring contract. The Bills have lots of rookie storylines heading into camp." said Melo.
Six of the rookies are on defense, and you could make the case that some of them will be starting at some point this season. The most notable one is OLB T.J. Parker, who is part of a great unit with Bradley Chubb and Greg Rousseau. In addition, fans should not be sleeping on what Kaleb Elarms-Orr can bring to this defense both this season and moving forward. He could very well be the team’s next Matt Milano.
With all of the changes that the Bills went through this offseason, they are going to need to show the entire NFL world that they were right. This includes getting the rookies involved and making an impact sooner than later.
We always talk about the support for Josh Allen, and how he hasn’t had consistent help throughout his career, which includes from the rookie class. This is the chance for this new rookie class to step up.
