The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to start training camp next week and we have a pretty good picture of what the roster looks like after the work new head coach Mike McCarthy put in. But there is still plenty of room for changes and surprises. Here are our five bold predictions for what will happen at Steelers training camp.
Max Iheanachor wins the starting right tackle job
Dylan Cook has been a good story but if the Steelers offensive line is going to compete this year, it'll be Max Iheanachor starting on the right side. We haven't heard much out of Iheanachor during minicamp but we expect him to come on strong at Saint Vincent.
Gennings Dunker does not win the starting right guard job
Whereas we think Iheanachor can outplay Cook, we don't predict the same for fellow rookie Gennings Dunker going against Spencer Anderson. Dunker is making a full-blown position change in the NFL and while he will be the starter at some point, it won't happen before the start of the season.
Jalen Ramsey moves back to safety
The combination of depth at cornerback and lack of depth at safety will push Ramsey back to safety where he replaces DeShon Elliott in the starting lineup and lets him work as the backup to Ramsey and Jaquan Brisker. This is also made easier by the emergence of rookie cornerback Daylen Everett.
Nick Herbig works as an inside linebacker to get on the field
If the Steelers are going to get Nick Herbig on the field with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, it will be because they put Watt and Highsmith up on the line with their hands in the dirt and Herbig plays a stand up linebacker and moves around the formation.
Rico Dowdle takes the lead at running back
Jaylen Warren starts training camp on top of the depth chart and Rico Dowdle finishes training camp there. Dowdle knows this offense well and is an truly underrated talent.
Aaron Rodgers looks like his younger self in this new offense
The Arthur Smith offense of last season made all the players on the Pittsburgh roster look bad. That's why we predict that the new McCarthy offense, one that Aaron Rodgers knows well, is going to make him look like a young quarterback again and much better than last season.
