A new insider scoop reveals another surprising actor eyed to play Professor X in the X-Men reboot. The upcoming Marvel Studios film is expected to feature an all-new cast representing Marvel’s mutants. Until now, Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy remain the only actors to play Professor Charles Xavier in live action.
What is the latest X-Men casting rumor for the MCU’s Professor X?
Scooper ApocHorseman has claimed that Tom Pelphrey is one of the names being considered for Professor X. Recently, Pelphrey has been well known for starring in HBO's Task. However, fans will find it more interesting that Pelphrey has already been a part of the MCU, as he played Ward Meachum in Netflix's Iron Fist. It should be noted that Marvel Studios has not officially announced any casting news for the X-Men reboot, so the new development should be treated as just a rumor.
If Pelphrey is indeed cast as Xavier, it wouldn’t be the first time that Marvel Studios has recast an actor in a different role. Previously, Alfre Woodard appeared in Marvel’s Luke Cage series as Mariah Dillard, but also played Miriam in Captain America: Civil War. Similarly, Gemma Chan played one of the Kree’s Starforce members in Captain Marvel, followed by Serse in Eternals.
Other actors currently rumored to be a part of the X-Men reboot include Margot Robbie, Charles Melton, Bill Skarsgård, Cailee Spaeny, and more. It remains to be seen whether any of these turn out to be true.
Marvel Studios is bringing back the original X-Men in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. The film will see Stewart’s Professor X sharing the screen with the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Following that, some rumors suggest McAvoy will also return as a younger Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel’s X-Men reboot, to be directed by Jake Schreier, currently doesn’t have a release date.
