Marvel's Wolverineis gearing up for release this September, and it's now dropped a new trailer offering a fresh look at the story and characters. As Insomniac Games' follow-up to the Marvel's Spider-Man titles, Marvel's Wolverine has been the subject of plenty of hype for years leading up to its launch.
Previous trailers offered some glimpses into the story and a fair bit of gameplay footage, but a lot of what to expect from its full narrative has remained a mystery. Now, Marvel's Wolverine has revealed an iconic villain who will be appearing in the game, along with a basic look at the core emotional thrust of the story.
The Ain't No Hero trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, uploaded on the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel, shows off the appearance of Lady Deathstrike in-game. Like Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike boasts adamantium claws, although hers extend from her fingernails rather than poking out from between her fingers. In the trailer, she and Wolverine rush toward each other for a confrontation, but the title drops before we can actually see a fight.
The trailer also highlights a sense of loss that underlies Wolverine's story (nothing new to see here, folks), with a voice-over talking about how fights and deaths have "all started to blur together." At the end, we get a look at a photo that he's been clutching of himself and Jean Grey in a casual setting, which starts to burn away in the flames ravaging a rainy city street.
Insomniac showcased an adept hand at weaving stories with familiar heroes and villains in the Marvel's Spider-Man games, so there's good reason to believe that Marvel's Wolverine will be able to pull off a similar feat. This could be an exciting moment for fans of Lady Deathstrike, who, despite appearances in X-2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, has never gotten a particularly extensive showcase on the silver screen.
There's no doubt that Marvel's Wolverine is still hiding some characters and story beats that have yet to be revealed, but we might not get too many more answers before the launch of the game. At any rate, the new trailer will likely only contribute to the increasing hype. There's plenty of negative sentiment around PlayStation right now, as a slew of YouTube comments talking about physical discs emphasize, but withMarvel's Wolverinereleasing well before the physical disc cutoff in 2028, none of that bodes poorly for the game itself.
