Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are the most popular team in the WNBA today. The viewership numbers back it up.
Recently, the Fever blew out the New York Liberty 108-88 during their battle at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while Clark finished with 17 points and seven assists.
Now, according to CBS Sports, millions of fans tuned in to watch Clark and Indiana take on Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart and the 2024 champions Liberty. In fact, the showdown averaged 2.579 million viewers — with viewership peaking at 3.089 million.
Not only did it become the most-watched WNBA game on any network this season, but it also became the second-most-watched WNBA game on any network since 2000.
For what it's worth, the Fever's clash with the Liberty on June 6 also drew historic numbers, averaging 2.557 million viewers.
While some could argue that the Liberty helped rake in viewers, the fact of the matter is that Clark and the Fever have been the common denominator in several of the most-watched games this season.
When Clark returned from a two-week absence against the Los Angeles Sparks on July 8, the meeting averaged 1.04 million viewers on cable television. It became the most-watched WNBA game on record in the USA Sports' history.
Meanwhile, when the Fever played the Las Vegas Aces on July 12 and blew them out 109-75, the game averaged 2.64 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, peaking at 2.8 million, according to Fox News.
The Fever had never drawn those kinds of viewership numbers before Clark's arrival in 2024. Now, they are must-see TV.
