Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever will return to action against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. It's their first game after a three-day break and their last outing before the WNBA enters the All-Star break.
On Monday, Indiana promoted the game, which is scheduled to be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They used a photo of Cunningham in action in their graphic for a social media post, writing in the caption, "last one before the All-Star break."
When Cunningham saw the post, however, she couldn't help but share a funny anecdote about the photo that was used.
According to the 29-year-old guard, she remembered missing the layup shown in the photo.
"I believe I smoked the heck out of this layup," Cunningham commented. "Hahaha oops."
The missed layup aside, though, Cunningham has been a key contributor for the Fever this season. In fact, she's averaging 9.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
What's most noteworthy about Cunningham's performance is her 3-point shooting. She's second in the league in 3-point shooting percentage, making 1.8 triples on 4.1 attempts per game for a 43.7% shooting clip.
In the Fever's 108-88 blowout victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday, Cunningham finished with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Furthermore, in the team's 109-75 win over the Las Vegas Aces on July 12, the veteran guard went 6-of-7 from deep to finish with 20 points.
Having said that, fans will probably forgive Cunningham for missing easy shots from time to time.
