The Indiana Fever have been red hot on offense over the past two games. Indiana is in solid position approaching the All-Star break with a 16-10 record. Unfortunately, a recent practice update suggests that Indiana could be without one of their best players in their next game.
Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is not at practice on Monday due to personal reasons, per The Athletic’s James Boyd. The team did not share additional details about Mitchell’s absence.
On one hand, it is good to hear that Mitchell is not missing practice due to an injury. After all, Mitchell took a big hit after hitting an epic 3-pointer against the Liberty on Saturday. However, it also creates concern about whether something serious is happening with Mitchell or her family off the court.

A potential absence for Mitchell would be bad news for Indiana. Mitchell has been dominant over the past few weeks, scoring 20+ points in her last 10 outings. She gives the Fever enough firepower to go toe-to-toe with anyone in the W.
Fever coach Stephanie White understands Mitchell will want to get back on the court as soon as she can. But Mitchell’s personal life must come before basketball.
“She’s just a ballplayer,” White said about Mitchell after Saturday’s win. “She just, she’s a hooper. She just wants to play. She doesn’t care. She doesn’t care about the numbers. She doesn’t care about anything but winning, and that’s just who she is.”
Fever fans should keep their eyes peeled for an update on Mitchell’s status before Indiana’s next game on the schedule. For better or worse, that game is just a few days away.
