Earlier this month, fighting resumed between Iran and the United States after a cease-fire deal collapsed. In recent days, four U.S. servicemembers were killed. Iran’s Friday attack on an air base in Jordan killed three U.S. Army soldiers: First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25; Private Isabella Gonzales, 19; and Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, 28, who is missing and “believed to be deceased.” A fourth U.S. Army soldier, Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, died on Sunday during the controlled detonation of an Iranian attack drone in Iraq. That brings the total number of U.S. servicemembers killed during the Iran war to at least 18, with roughly 500 troops wounded.
,The Iran war is unpopular, even among Trump’s most loyal supporters. And these new casualties will do nothing to improve public opinion around it. But according to Trump, we’re looking at the situation all wrong. In context, he suggested, 18 dead U.S. troops isn’t actually all that bad.
,When asked about the new casualties on Sunday, Trump did say “we feel very badly.” And while attending “dignified transfer” at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday, he called the fallen troops “great heroes” and asserted, oddly, that “all of them said very strongly, ‘We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.’”
,But the president’s posts a day earlier lacked even this low level of sensitivity. He simply listed the number of troops “DEAD” in various U.S. conflicts dating back to the Korean War:

Trump “retruthed” this less than an hour after posting it on Tuesday. But apparently he was worried that people still weren’t getting his point, so later on Tuesday night he shared a graph that showed U.S. military war deaths under “Other Presidents” versus his record. “These are the real facts. REPORT THEM!” he demanded:
