A 23-year-old Pomona man was arrested after allegedly attacking an Omnitrans bus driver in what authorities described as an unprovoked assault in San Bernardino County on Wednesday.
Details remain limited, and authorities have not said exactly when or where in Chino the attack occurred. However, surveillance cameras aboard the bus captured the violent encounter.
The footage shows the suspect, identified as Robert Kirkwood, reaching into his pocket before appearing to throw an object at the bus driver. Kirkwood then steps farther into the bus and repeatedly strikes the driver in the face and head after maneuvering around the protective glass barrier near the entrance.
At one point, the driver extends a hand in self-defense, but Kirkwood continues the assault before eventually walking away.

Police broadcast a description of the suspect and used surveillance footage and a helicopter to help track him as officers responded. Video released by the Chino Police Department shows Kirkwood walking along a sidewalk while air crews directed officers on the ground toward his location.
When Kirkwood spotted police vehicles, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attack. Investigators said a search of Kirkwood revealed drug paraphernalia in his possession.
He was booked on suspicion of felony assault.
Officials did not release information about the bus driver’s condition or whether the driver was hospitalized for treatment of injuries.
