A driver has been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase early Wednesday morning. The driver, who has only been identified as a juvenile, reached speeds upwards of 130 mph.
The chase through Fairfax and Prince William Counties started just before 1:30 a.m. when Virginia State Police were notified of a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 395 in Fairfax County. Several troopers located the vehicle on Interstate 95 southbound south of the Mixing Bowl.
Troopers tried to pull the car over, and the driver refused to stop. VSP troopers began to chase the driver. The high-speed pursuit continued southbound before the driver exited I-95 at Exit 150, where it collided with an uninvolved vehicle. A trooper tried to stop the driver at Minnieville Road, but the driver got back on I-95 heading northbound.
Troopers attempted to box the car in, and the driver rammed a VSP trooper's cruiser, forcing the trooper into a jersey wall.
Following the collision, the wanted driver traveled about another 100 yards before coming to a stop, according to police.
The driver, who police say is a juvenile from Maryland, was taken into custody and was taken to a hospital to be checked out. After being released from the hospital, he was taken to Fairfax County Juvenile Intake and he has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer and eluding.
Four other passengers in the stolen car, an 18-year-old and three juveniles, were released.
The trooper whose cruiser was rammed was taken to the hospital for evaluation, treated for minor injuries and released.
The case remains under investigation. Police have not released any additional details.
