The crazed migrant accused of murdering three people over a petty parking-garage dispute told investigators he “hated the American system” that had thwarted him from bringing his wife and kids here from Ethiopia.
Tsegaab Binessu was busted late Monday in Virginia, Minn., some 200 miles north of the St. Paul residences where he allegedly “executed” Nansi Fuentes Zambrano, 25, Dena Silcox, 56, and Adam Wilwerding, 43, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
All three were staffers at his apartment complex where he was fighting to cancel his $65-a-month parking garage contract in the hopes of joining the Navy, the complaint said.
Once arrested, Binessu “complained about and said he hated the American system” that he blamed on destroying his family life, the complaint said.
Binessu, who had a US passport and Social Security card, told police that for several years he had tried without success to bring his wife and children to the US, according to the complaint.
The prolonged immigration process, he said, led to his divorce and separation from his kids. He claimed he quit his job as a truck driver due to the stress of the situation, the document states.

Binessu also said “his apartment management repeatedly blamed issues on ‘the system’ instead of helping him,” the complaint said.
“Binessu believes he was treated unfairly because he is Black and an immigrant,” police wrote in the document.

It’s not clear exactly how long he had been in the country, but his roommate said they had been living together for eight years.
Binessu called the leasing office Monday night and told them he wanted to cancel the parking garage contract.
He became outraged when a woman from the apartment complex he spoke with told him he is still obligated to pay “and she repeatedly told him it was ‘the system’ and could not be changed,” according to the complaint.
Binessu, who lived just over a block away, in an apartment building run by the same management company, Mid Continent Management Corp, then marched down to the leasing office where he “executed three workers,” the complaint states.
He is accused of shooting Wilwerding, a community manager known affectionately as AJ, six times and Silcox six times.
Silcox, who was the assistant manager having worked in the office for almost a decade, reportedly screamed “No, no – no no” when Wilwerding was shot.
Silcox was then also shot five times in “rapid succession” before Binessu allegedly fired another gunshot, which sent her crashing to the floor, the court documents said.
A scream was heard on surveillance video and Binessu allegedly fired four more shots. In total, police recovered 21 shell casings.
Fuentes Zambrano was found dead in a room at the back of the office – and she tried to escape through a window when she was shot.
She was found with a gunshot to her head.
He then called his roommate and allegedly confessed “he had argued with apartment management and ended up killing three people,” the court documents state.
When he was arrested, he had newly purchased camping gear, his US passport, his Social Security card, an empty handgun magazine and his permit to carry a weapon, according to the complaint.
Binessu was charged with second-degree murder and was due to make his first court appearance Wednesday.
He faces 40 years in prison for each murder, if convicted.
