Newly released surveillance video shows the confrontation leading up to a deadly shooting outside a Lincoln Park bar that left one person dead.
Neighbors, including some who live just feet away, said The Dime has changed the feel of the neighborhood.
At least one resident said she takes a different route home to avoid the bar.
City officials shut down the establishment following the shooting that killed a 30-year-old man on Sunday night and another shooting six months earlier.
Neighbors and business owners shared what they saw and heard as the shooting broke out.
“I walked outside, I saw a guy pointing a gun and running toward the south side,” store owner Abunaser Wazidullah said.
Wazidullah’s shop is just feet away from where 30-year-old Malik McCorkle was shot and killed. As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made.
Chicago police said a person of interest was questioned but later released.
NBC Chicago obtained new surveillance footage on Tuesday showing three men armed with handguns arguing outside the bar. Video showed one man in the middle appearing to try and de-escalate. When he began to walk away, a shootout quickly broke out.
By Tuesday morning, the establishment had been closed.
This marked the second shooting in less than two months linked to patrons who had been at the business.
“This is two shooting incidents in the span of six weeks that root from the same bar so again we are pushing not only with the Chicago police department but also all other departments to make sure that this business in its current form does not return,” 43 Ward Ald. Timmy Knudsen said.
The city of Chicago exercised a rare move to shut the bar down through a process known as summary closure.
Knudsen said it’s so rare that less than 10 businesses a year are subjected to it.
The city worked with other bars for surveillance to build a case for the closure.
One neighbor who lives next to the bar didn’t want to go on camera, but said the business should have been shut down a long time ago.
“It’s a huge relief honestly we are so happy that something was done and I know that I can speak for a lot of people on this block,” the neighbor said.
One business owner down the street said other bars around the city should heed the warning and tighten up their security.
“I don’t want to see anybody lose their business or be put out of business yet, and if there is an issue and they’re not handling that issue, then the proper action has to be taken,” John McMahon said.
