Sophie Thatcher is putting down roots in a new state.
The Yellowjackets star, 25, opened up about her decision to buy a house in upstate New York during an interview with Variety published on Wednesday, July 22. While speaking to the outlet, Thatcher, who is originally from Chicago, also explained why she moved to the East Coast.
“I’m in upstate New York now. I was in L.A. and realized L.A. wasn’t for me at this point, and I want to be removed enough from New York City and maybe go there on the weekends,” she said.
The star added that her home purchase came at a time when she was ready for a new beginning.
“I think it was just, ‘OK, let’s end this chapter of my life and let’s move on,’ ” Thatcher shared, noting that she wants to spend more time on her music career.
“If I have time off, I just want to focus on stuff that isn’t for anyone else and just for me, and do movies with directors I admire, like Jennifer Kent. I want to do something that’s not in my safe zone,” she added.
Along with gearing up for the July 24 release of her new movie, Her Private Hell, Thatcher is getting ready to say goodbye to her role on Yellowjackets as the series’ fourth and final season wraps filming.
The actress told Variety that she’s ready to say goodbye to her tortured teen character, whom she grew up with over the last seven years.
“I personally feel a bit stunted having to play the same character. And I’m relying on a lot of — I keep saying this, and it’s not necessarily true, maybe it’s just acting — cheat codes. Last night, filming until 6 a.m., screaming and crying, the fact that I can get into that so fast without any… It feels less challenging,” she explained.

She also noted how stepping into the role of a character so young is “confusing” as an adult in her mid-twenties.
“Just playing somebody younger is confusing, and staying in that place you were at when you first filmed the pilot seven years ago is a very confusing thing, and that’s what messed with me the most. I want to continue to grow, but then I have to go back to where I was when I was a kid,” she concluded.
