Congratulations are in order for Elaine Crowley, as the television presenter has become a homeowner for the first time.

The Virgin Media star revealed that it has 'been a hard slog' to achieve her goal of buying a home on her own, after setting up shop at her new apartment in Dublin 8.

Elaine admitted it is 'very difficult' to buy a home as a single person, revealing that her achievement took 'years and years of planning.'

The 48-year-old explained that she wasn't always focused on owning a house one day, and so 'lived the life' in her youth.

'So there was a plan - clear off the credit cards and the loans. Try and save up for a bit,' she told the Irish Independent.

While trying to get on the property ladder, incidents in Elaine's personal life meant the house hunt was put on the back burner several times.

'It was a nightmare because the prices had gone up a crazy amount. An actually frightening amount. I couldn’t believe it,' she told the outlet.

She had been renting in Dublin, though was always afraid her landlord would sell.

Luckily, she had just gone sale agreed when her landlord told her he was selling up, in a moment Elaine has dubbed 'serendipitous.'

'I’m lucky in that way. And I’m lucky I could afford to buy on my own eventually, because it is a hard slog. It was a long road,' she gushed.

The huge life achievement also holds emotional weight for Elaine, as she admitted this is the first time she has felt she has a home since her late mum passed away.

'Now, I just feel I have a home. Because I haven’t felt like I’ve had my own home since my mother died,' she told the outlet.
