Fans of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham aren't thrilled about her being left out of the field for 2026 WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd will compete in this year's WNBA 3-Point Contest. This weekend's contest will also feature Portland Fire forward Bridget Carleton, Seattle Storm guard Natisha Hiedeman, Atlanta Dream star Rhyne Howard, Toronto Tempo veteran Marina Mabrey and Golden State Valkyries forward Janelle Salaun.
Cunningham, who is making 43.7% of her attempts from the 3-point line, wasn't included in this weekend's contest. Some fans believe she was intentionally snubbed by the WNBA.
Just 24 hours ago, Darren Rovell reported that Cunningham's finger-pointing taunt towards Phoenix Mercury veteran DeWanna Bonner won't be used for any licensing deals.
"The WNBA Players Association is currently prohibiting licensees from using the Sophie point, saying that it is 'derogatory,'" Rovell said.
Cunningham hasn't responded to the WNBA union's attempt to block her from using her viral gesture for licensing deals. She did, however, throw shade at this year's 3-Point Contest.
The veteran guard for the Fever shared a screenshot of her 3-point shooting percentage along with the caption: "soooo what else is new with everyone?"
What about Caitlin Clark?
According to Front Office Sports, Fever star Caitlin Clark turned down the chance to compete in this All-Star contest.
“A source familiar with the situation told FOS that some players were invited but declined the invitation for various reasons. The Indiana Fever, New York Liberty, and representatives for Clark and Ionescu did not immediately respond to a request for comment,” Colin Salao wrote. “Clark has still never shot in the contest since joining the league three years ago; she left Iowa as the all-time Division I leader in made three-pointers. She did not participate in her rookie season, but was announced as a participant last year when the event was held in Indianapolis.”
Clark, who is averaging 20.7 points and 7.8 assists per game this season, will be starting in this Saturday's All-Star Game though.
