Before you ask: yes, it floats. And yes, it looks unmistakably like a 1964 Chevrolet Impala.
Shaquille O'Neal has taken delivery of a fully functional Impala-inspired jet boat created by Effortless Motors. The custom shop describes the one-of-one watercraft as the world's first 1964 Impala boat, and videos from Lake Ray Hubbard in North Texas show the NBA legend taking it onto the water.
This is no stationary display. The boat moves, turns and attracts exactly the kind of attention expected when a classic lowrider appears to cruise across a lake.
Inside Shaq's One-of-One Impala Boat
The unusual build recreates several of the 1964 Impala's most recognizable design elements, including its long roofline, chrome detailing and distinctive rear styling. Underneath the car-inspired exterior is a functional jet boat powered by a high-pressure stream of water rather than a conventional exposed propeller.
From a distance, the finished vessel looks remarkably like a classic Impala driving across the water.
Effortless Motors CEO Ahmad Abdelrahman presented the boat to O'Neal in a video shared on Instagram.
"My Impala boat has arrived! Worth three points! Oh my God!" O'Neal exclaimed after seeing the finished build. "Once again, Effortless Motors delivered."
The company called it a "one-of-one build" that had taken the lowrider "from the streets to the water," adding: "Love it or hate it ... you can't say you've ever seen anything like this."
The 1964 Impala occupies a prominent place in American custom-car culture, particularly within Chicano lowrider culture and hip-hop. Transforming its familiar silhouette into a working boat gives the design an entirely different—and highly shareable—setting.
Where Shaq Drove the Impala Boat
O'Neal was subsequently spotted driving the boat on Lake Ray Hubbard near Rockwall, Texas. Videos posted by people in the area show the vessel traveling across the lake as nearby boaters watch and record it.
The boat follows another 1964 Impala that O'Neal received from Effortless Motors. That orange, road-going model underwent a frame-off restoration before being delivered to him.
O'Neal had previously asked Abdelrahman for a boat version of the Impala, telling him: "All I need now is my goddamn Impala boat." Abdelrahman promised to make it happen, and the completed watercraft appears to have fulfilled that request.
The NBA Hall of Famer has a longstanding relationship with Effortless Motors. In 2024, he said he had purchased eight customized vehicles from the California-based company. His collection from the shop has included highly modified luxury vehicles and oversized models adapted to accommodate his 7-foot-1 frame.
The Impala boat, however, may be the most visually unusual build yet.
