Jason Bateman has revealed that one of his wildest nights ended with an arrest in Monaco — while he was wearing what he described as "a nice little leopard outfit."
The "Ozark" and "Arrested Development" star shared the story during the July 20 episode of his "SmartLess" podcast with co-hosts Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
"I was arrested in Monaco for being drunk and disorderly in a nice little leopard outfit," Bateman recalled.
According to the actor, he had just left the casinos and was "all banged up on cheap Champagne" with a pocket full of casino chips when the night took a turn. Summing up what happened, Bateman added, "I just got rocked."
The unusual combination of a Monaco casino, an animal-print outfit and an arrest quickly amused his co-hosts. TMZ reported that one of them joked that Bateman's colorful description should become the title of his autobiography.
Bateman did not reveal when the arrest occurred or provide details about what happened after he was taken into custody. It is therefore unclear whether he was formally charged, briefly detained or released without further legal action. The account comes solely from Bateman's recollection on the podcast.
The incident appears to have taken place during the actor's earlier partying years, long before he became sober. Bateman has previously discussed his struggles with alcohol and credited conversations with his wife, Amanda Anka, with helping him make a change. The couple married in 2001 and share two daughters, Francesca and Maple.
In a February interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bateman said he was fortunate that many of his most reckless moments occurred before smartphones and social media made celebrity behavior nearly impossible to keep private.
"Fortunately, I was living at a time without social media and camera phones," he said. "So I got away with a lot, but it was definitely close a few times."
Bateman now tells the Monaco story with self-deprecating humor, presenting it as an episode from a part of his life that ended more than two decades ago.
"SmartLess," which Bateman launched with Arnett and Hayes in 2020, is currently distributed through SiriusXM under a multiyear agreement reportedly worth more than $100 million.
