Bubba Wallace was the first driver 23XI Racing signed when it started competing in the NASCAR Cup Series. Within a year, he took the team to its first victory at Talladega Superspeedway. But six years down the line, things aren’t looking good for the driver.
Despite starting the season strong, Wallace has repeatedly stumbled upon on-track penalties, pit road errors, and massive multi-car crashes, leading to lacklustre finishes. He has yet to win his first race of the season, with his 2026 tally screaming six finishes of 29th or worse.
Amid all that, a question arises: Will Bubba Wallace be back at 23XI Racing next season?
Well, his boss has confirmed that he will. Denny Hamlin, who co-owns 23XI Racing with NBA legend Michael Jordan, said in a statement that Wallace can get the most out of the 23XI cars.
Wallace has the speed, the passion and the talent. However, execution has been an issue with the 32-year-old speedster.
“As long as you do the best of your ability and the team does the best of theirs, yes there’s certain aspects of luck that can change your results over any given week, but over the big sample size, you’re going to get a bigger picture of where you stand,” Hamlin said during a media session at Sonoma.
“The biggest thing is just focusing on what you can control,” he added.
Currently, Wallace has earned a total of 28 top-5s and 60 top-10s for 23XI Racing. Among those, three top-5s and 10 top-10s came this year. His average finish this season is 17.05, which is better than 2025.
Coming up for Bubba Wallace is the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He won the event last year, marking his first-ever crown jewel victory. After finishing P6 last Sunday at North Wilkesboro, Wallace said,
“All in all, good night for our Coca-Cola team. No yellow line and fractions. I get to keep my finishing position. And yeah, it sets us up nice for the Brickyard next week, which we have a lot of confidence and momentum going into. So I’m excited for that.”
Bubba Wallace Reflects On Close-Corner Racing After NASCAR Changes Short-Track Package
Bubba Wallace thought much was about the changes NASCAR made to its short-track package ahead of the Window World 450.
NASCAR confirmed the changes in June for tracks like Bristol, Martinsville, North Wilkesboro, and Richmond. At North Wilkesboro, those rules were implemented for the first time.
The biggest change was the removal of the Y-brackets in the front bumper and the high-density foam between the frame and the body of the car. This means that ramming the car in front of you could be riskier.
“I hope it was a good race from the stands, the fans’ viewpoint. For us, man, you just were so fast in the center of the corner, and you can’t pass doing that,” Wallace observed.
Still, Wallace was happy with how controlled the race was. All eyes are now on the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which will host the 30th Brickyard 400 on July 26. Fans can watch the race on TNT Sports or listen to radio updates on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
