l joked that he is "officially too old" for wife Audra Mari after realizing the 32-year-old former beauty queen is nearly the same age as his youngest sister.
During the July 13 episode of "The HoneyDew With Ryan Sickler," the 53-year-old "Ransom Canyon" actor recalled that his sister Cassidy was born while he was attending Minot State University.
"Cassidy came along and I was playing football at Minot State University," Duhamel said. "I remember looking up at the stands and I saw my mom and had this bump. And I'm like, 'Is my mom pregnant?' I'm 21 years old and she's having another baby."
The full significance of the age difference did not strike him until he recently saw an old photograph of himself holding Cassidy as an infant.
"I looked at the photo and I looked at my wife and I said, 'You and Cassidy are exactly the same age,'" he recalled.
Duhamel then jokingly told Mari, "I am officially too old for you."
"They're literally like months apart in age," he added. "I never looked at it like that until I saw that photo. I was like, 'Wait a second.'"
The remark was delivered as a self-deprecating joke rather than an indication of tension in the couple's marriage. Duhamel has previously acknowledged that their 21-year age difference initially made him hesitant to pursue a relationship with Mari.
"I just thought she was too young," he said during an earlier interview promoting "Ransom Canyon." He said that impression changed after they became friends, explaining, "She's more mature than I am, and that's really how we started dating."
Duhamel and Mari, both North Dakota natives, began dating in 2019 and married in Fargo in September 2022. They share son Shepherd, born in January 2024, and daughter Rocca, whom they welcomed earlier this year. Duhamel is also the father of 12-year-old Axl, his son with ex-wife Fergie.
Mari was crowned Miss World America in 2016 after previously representing North Dakota in the Miss USA competition.
Duhamel recently completed work on the action thriller "Runaway," co-starring James Franco and Paula Patton. He will also return as Staten Kirkland when the second season of Netflix's "Ransom Canyon" premieres July 23.
