TikTok is a place where moms can get real about the struggles of motherhood and laugh with other parents about how absurd parenting really can be. But often, the moms of TikTok share funny stories or parenting videos only to be criticized in the comments by those who don't get the joke. Still, every now and again, the parents who use the social media platform surprise us with their senses of humor.
Case in point, a TikTok recently uploaded by Audrey Hough that's a humorous take on what it's like to try to get a good night's sleep with a newborn in the house. The clip, which has gotten more than 500,000 views, shows Hough's newborn in his stroller on a walk. "Taking our newborn on a bumpy stroller ride as payback for keeping us up all night," the caption reads.
Set to the Paramour hit "Ain't It Fun," the clip shows the infant being jostled around a bit by bumps in the sidewalk, looking just a bit startled each time the ride stops being smooth. "Momma loves you," Hough wrote in the caption. "No babies were harmed in the making of this video."
Sure, there were a few commenters on the post who didn't find Hough's joke amusing. One said the clip was "very mean," while another chided that newborn babies are "biologically supposed to wake up during the night." But, for the most part, Hough's fellow parents were all in on the funny video.
"That's called sensory input," joked one, "it's good for development." Another suggested Hough "go over some cobblestone for extra peace."
"This is actually very dangerous because your baby will grow up riding a motorcycle," said one parent. "As a mom of two feral toddlers," commented another, "I approve this message." One mom said, "I'm dying. Here's to all the times you kicked me in the ribs at 2 a.m., making me pee my pants," while another admitted, "I'm this petty."
In a world where moms get criticized for everything they share on social media, it's refreshing to see parents coming together to make jokes about something that can definitely be stressful. Because after all, just because it's perfectly normal for babies to wake up during the night doesn't mean the all-night feedings and diaper changes don't make parents totally exhausted.
And besides, sometimes a little adventure may be just what babies need. "She's preparing him for this wild world," one commenter said. "A lot of bumpy roads ahead."
