The SEC Media Days always involve a good deal of drama. That drama just doesn’t always play out in the form of security escorting radio hosts out of the event.
That’s reportedly what happened on Tuesday, the second day of the marquee preseason event. And it wasn’t just anyone who was escorted out.

Famous Paul Finebaum caller “Legend,” more formally known as Gary Wilson, the host of a Saturday morning radio show on Birmingham’s WJOX, was ejected from the main floor in Tampa by SEC staff and event security, AL.com reported on Tuesday evening. Details surrounding the ejection are murky at best, but Legend left threatening to sue several associated with his boot.
“They got every podcaster and basement-dweller in the country at this meeting with credentials, and he wants to come after the Legend,” Legend told AL.com’s Matt Stahl. “I’m on TV. I’m on radio. I think he’s got a problem with the Legend personally, and I think this is discriminatory.”
Legend is one of the most famous regular callers into The Paul Finebaum Show, one of the SEC’s most popular venues for fans to discuss the league’s sports. His rants have become well-known throughout the south, frequently centered around his cherished Alabama program.
As AL.com described what happened, it noted “Legend was bombastic about the incident” and threatened lawsuits. He claimed that he was yelled at by SEC officialCraig Pinkerton before being escorted out by security.
“He came out there yelling at me and screaming at me like I was some kind of hoodlum or criminal or something,” Legend said. “I’m really ashamed of the way the SEC treat the fans, man. They just treat the fans like crap. I’ve seen them run other people off, even getting close up there. It just seems disgraceful how the SEC treats the fans and screams at them and stuff.”
Pinkerton declined comment. AL.com noted it witnessed a portion of the incident in progress and failed to observe Pinkerton raising his voice at Legend.
