There is no secret in college football that Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin have cemented themselves as two of the best coaches in the sport. You cannot have a top 10 CFB coaches ranking without these two being in it. The two also happen to go way back.
Falling under the Nick Saban coaching tree, Smart worked with Kiffin as coordinators for the Crimson Tide in 2014 and 2015. Since then, the two have frequently found ways to poke fun at each other when given the opportunity, and on Tuesday at SEC Media Days Smart got the latest jab.
Smart calls Kiffin a "troll" in hilarious Media Days moment
While this was poking fun, you cannot deny it has some truth to it. A reporter asked Smart if he would define Kiffin as a troll. When Smart asked the reporter to define it, the reporter gave the simple definition that a troll "just means poking fun. He likes to stir the pot." After that explanation Smart responded, "Yup, that's him" with complete certainty in his tone and a subtle smirk.
As funny as this is, it is absolutely true. Kiffin is widely known as the coach who can leave a program in the most dramatic way possible, including Tennessee and most recently Ole Miss. Not only that, but he also feeds off the hate those fanbases give him.
It was just a few seasons ago that a whole Tennessee student section was ejected from a game because they were throwing things on the field at Kiffin. Kiffin's response? Be a troll. With a classic reunion game looming where LSU travels to Ole Miss this year, many fans are already expecting a very similar type of atmosphere.
Georgia will be thankful they won't have to face Kiffin and the LSU Tigers this season, but they will still have to face Kiffin's former team in Ole Miss. The Rebels bring back Trinidad Chambliss and the team that pushed the Bulldogs out of the playoffs back in January.
Though they won't even play each other this season, these two will never miss an opportunity to have some fun together and push each other on the recruiting trail. But make no mistake, Kiffin will not let this one slide without a sly comeback of his own. The LSU Tigers' media day is set for Thursday, July 23 and it’s probably safe to put money on it that we will hear what Kiffin has to say back in his presser the first chance he gets.
