Wizards of the Coast revealed more previews for Magic: The Gathering's Reality Fracture set during the MagicCon Amsterdam 2026 Preview Panel. They showcased the original Lorwyn planeswalkers alongside their Echoverse counterparts and previewed some new cards related to Hexhaven's schools. Here's everything revealed during the Reality Fracture preview.
The Original Lorwyn Planeswalkers and Their Echoverse Counterparts
WotC revealed the original five planeswalkers from Lorwyn and their Echoverse counterparts. Because Jace is the set's main villain and the Echoverse's creator, he didn't get an alternate reality variant.
The Theorist, Jace Beleren is the Jace card in Reality Fracture. He has a powerful static ability that makes you draw a card on each opponent's draw step. His basic loyalty abilities focus on creating illusions and bouncing an artifact or creature that each opponent controls. Finally, his ultimate makes you draw cards then empowers your creatures based on how many cards are in your hand.
Ajani, Resolute, and his Echoverse variant, Ajani Unrelenting were revealed. The former shows Ajani as a mono-white planeswalker that gains loyalty counters whenever you gain life. Meanwhile, his Echoverse variant creates creature tokens whenever you activate loyalty abilities.
The white Ajani maintains his focus on lifegain, creating creature tokens, and empowering your creatures. His alternate reality self has more aggressive abilities. While Ajani Unrelenting also creates and empowers tokens, he also rummaging and a board wipe effect.
Chandra and her Echoverse variant were first revealed in the Reality Fracture preview in MagicCon Las Vegas 2026. Both of these variants of Chandra each have four loyalty abilities. The mono-red variant shows Chandra as she's known: impulsive and focused on direct damage. Meanwhile, the Echoverse Chandra has more controlling and disruptive abilities.
Both Liliana variants that were shown are legendary creatures instead of planeswalkers. Her mono-white Echoverse variant shows her never having ascended to becoming a planeswalker. It showcases Liliana continuing to be a healer, with abilities centered on life gain and protection. Meanwhile, the original desparked Liliana shows her as the necromancer we know.
Finally, Garruk and his echoverse variant were also shown during the presentation. Both variants still have abilities that relate to creatures. The Echoverse Garruk has abilities focused on disruption, weakening, and sacrificing creatures. Meanwhile, the original Garruk maintains his identity as a planeswalker that summons and empowers creatures.
Existing MTG Cards Receive Echoverse Variants
Echoverse variants of existing Magic cards were also presented by the preview panel.
Characters like Tinybones and his Echoverse self Titanbones were among the dual cards shown during the preview. Tinybones maintains his identity as a thief whose abilities are focused on disrupting your opponent's hand and damaging them. Meanwhile, Titanbones is titanic in size and becomes bigger as you gain life.
Enlightened Confidant is an Echoverse variant of Dark Confidant. Both variants provide you with card advantage. However, Enlightened Confidant's card advantage triggers during your end step, with a more complicated trigger.
Meanwhile, Craterclaw Colossus is a variant of Craterhoof Behemoth. Unlike his original counterpart, the Craterclaw's buff depends on how many artifacts you control instead.
New Cards Representing Hexhaven's Schools
Finally, the preview panel gave a look at some cards that were specific to the Hexhaven schools. Click the gallery below to view each card.
Each card features the Prepare mechanic that was introduced in Secrets of Strixhaven. This gives these creatures a spell you can cast when their prepare conditions are met.
Reality Fracture is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026.
