Avatar Legends Launches On Day One
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game arrives Thursday, July 23, the same day the convention floor opens, and stays present across the weekend with the development team on hand.
The game is coming to PC via Steam ,PlayStation, and Xbox for $29.99 USD, with full cross-play at launch. Physical editions from PM Studios follow in October.
Pricing runs $29.99 for the Standard Edition and $49.99 for the Digital Deluxe, which adds the Year 1 Pass covering five additional characters, a digital art book, the soundtrack, and unique HUDs. Pre-orders include the Samurai Appa support skin, exclusive character colours, and a vote on which character joins the Year 1 Pass.
Mechanically, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a 1v1 fighter using hand-drawn 2D animation modelled on the shows, with 12 characters at launch drawn from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Modes cover Story, Arcade, Training, Combo Trials, Character Lessons, Gallery, and online ranked, casual, and lobbies.
The development team at Gameplay Group International includes veterans of Killer Instinct and Them's Fightin' Herds, and the game runs proprietary rollback netcode for smoother online play. This is a licensed fighter built by people who have shipped competitive ones, so expect the game to pack a punch.
The Two Paramount Panels Focus on Avatar and TMNT
The first panel will focus on Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, running from 1 to 2 PM PT at Hall H on Thursday. Primarily a panel about the upcoming Paramount+ animated film, it will be featuring voice actors and the creative team. It will also include exclusive news about Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which on launch day likely means roster or roadmap information, perhaps a reveal for its final Year 1 Pass fighter. Hall H is the largest room at the show, and queues form accordingly.
The second one will be for TMNT: Shellebrating 300 Issues of Turtle Power & The Last Ronin, running from 10 to 11 AM PT at Room 25ABC on Friday. Tom Waltz, who co-wrote the original comic, appears alongside comic creatives Gene Luen Yang, Andrew Joustra, Sarah Myer, and Jake Thomas. Critically, Shawn Kittelsen, SVP and Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, is giving an insider look at the development process on the PlatinumGames adaptation.
Given how little has been shown since the reveal, this is realistically the most substantive Last Ronin information that will become available this year.
What We Know About The Last Ronin So Far
TMNT: The Last Ronin was revealed at Summer Game Fest in June as a AAA third-person action-adventure from PlatinumGames, the studio behind Bayonetta, NieR: Automata, and Ninja Gaiden 4. It adapts the acclaimed IDW miniseries in which a single surviving Turtle pursues vengeance through a ruined New York controlled by Shredder's grandson.
This project has been through a studio change: it was originally announced in 2023 with Black Forest Games developing, and was reassigned to PlatinumGames following the Skydance and Paramount merger. The game still doesn't have a release date as of now, but it has so far been confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Kittelsen has previously described the tone as reaching for God of War-style storytelling, and one of the writers of Mortal Kombat 11 is contributing to the story.
Where To Go If You Want to Play
IGN Gaming Lounge is the main event: 25 demo stations running Avatar Legends, with daily tournaments and giveaways. Avatar Legends will be hitting the ground running, and their willingness to expose the game for free to a huge audience shows just how much confidence they have going for this fighting game.
Outside of the convention center, there are also a couple of events running in parallel nearby for anyone who wants to play without having a con badge.
The Paramount+ Lodge hosts an Avatar Legends arcade placement among activities for various Paramount shows. It runs Wednesday through Sunday at Happy Does, 340 Fifth Ave. It is not affiliated with Comic-Con, so you can come by and participate without a badge.
Star TrekFleet Command: 60 Years of Star Trek Archives Experience marks the franchise's 60th anniversary with an off-site activation built around Scopely's mobile game. It includes official archive pieces, a Holodeck VR experience, themed photo moments, interactive claw machines with Star Trek prizes, and a souvenir station printing personalised faction-themed cards. Friday evening hosts an invite-only event for the Fleet Command community. Located at The Sinclair on G Street, 643 G St, open Friday through Sunday, and also unaffiliated with Comic-Con.
Merch And Signings
TMNT: The Last Ronin Training Day Signing takes place at the IDW Booth, #2729, on Friday from 5 to 6 PM. Signing opportunities are available for Attack Peter, the Escorza Bros, Tom Waltz, Luis Delgado, Ben Bishop, and Shawn Kittelsen. That is most of the comic's original art and writing team in one place, which for Last Ronin collectors is the highlight of the weekend.
The Nickelodeon Booth, #4113, carries two SDCC exclusives: a limited-edition BossLogic x TMNT: The Last Ronin hat and a BossLogic x Avatar Legends art print.
Paramount Games Studio is a product of the 2025 Skydance and Paramount merger, and Kittelsen has described it as a business unit and a content pillar alongside film and television. This is its first Comic-Con as a consolidated publisher, and the shape of the slate reflects that ambition: a launched competitive fighter, a AAA action game with a marquee Japanese developer, and a live mobile title anchoring a 60th anniversary.
The studio is also reported to be handling future Star Trek projects and developing a Star Wars game, so the SDCC footprint is a fraction of what it is actually working on.
What To Watch For During This Weekend's SDCC
If you are attending, the two panels are where news happens, and the Hall H slot on Thursday is the one carrying explicit promise of Avatar Legends announcements.
If you are following remotely, the Last Ronin panel on Friday morning is the higher-value one. A game with no release window getting a dedicated development segment from the studio's creative head is the setup for either a date, a gameplay reveal, or both.
And if you simply want to play the fighting game, it is out on July 23 regardless of whether you are anywhere near San Diego, so get your fighting sticks ready for some bending.
