Magic: The Gathering: All sets officially confirmed for 2027

Magic: The Gatheringhas had an incredible year, and Wizards of the Coast is already preparing big things for 2027, as not only are more crossover cards on the way, but new mainline sets are in development that will traverse new planes, as well as return to classic settings.

Not counting the crossover sets, Magic: The Gathering focused on existing settings throughout 2026, with returns to Lorwyn and Strixhaven. The familiar will become different in October, when the Reality Fractures set shows a "What If..." universe, crafted by Jace, showing versions of iconic characters who had lived different lives. Once Reality Fractures has been released, it will be time for Magic: The Gathering to explore new worlds in 2027.

Nauctis — The Sunken Realm Goes Under The Waves On February 5

Creatures of the deep have been a part of Magic: The Gathering since the beginning, with sea monsters being common sights in blue decks. Nauctis — The Sunken Realm is the first fully underwater Magic: The Gathering set, which means aquatic versions of iconic creatures, races based on real-life fish, and lots of leviathans of unfathomable size. Humans do exist in this setting, but they have to rely on technology, like diving suits, to survive.

Nauctis — The Sunken Realm is the first set in Magic: The Gathering history without any fliers, and while it might have lots of sealife, it's balanced across all five colors, and won't be dominated by blue cards. Fans will get the chance to explore the depths on February 5, 2027.

Kamigawa: TitantBreach Pits Mechs Against Kaiju On June 4

Magic: The Gathering loves to return to beloved settings, like it did in 2026 with Secrets of Strixhaven. Kamigawa: TitanBreach is taking a new approach, as Ikoria, the world full of giant monsters, has crashed into Kamigawa, the Japanese anime plane. Gee, what's going to happen when the Kaiju go to a place full of mechs? Are they going to talk things out like adults? No, Kamigawa: TitanBreah is the mech versus monster Magic: The Gathering set.

Kamigawa: TitanBreach is all about huge scale battles, as building-sized robots are sent into battle against creatures that can stomp on cities. It's an amazing idea, and it'll be fascinating to see how the concept of giant mechs will be adapted into the tabletop game, and what it means for potential future crossovers. Kamigawa: TitanBreach will unleash the machines and the giants on June 4, 2027.

Magic: The Gathering Returns To Zhalfir On October 1

Zhalfir was once a kingdom in Dominaria, but after March of the Machines, it has now transformed into its own plane, with five suns bringing an endless day, while its spirit realm exists within eternal darkness. This fresh start for the plane has allowed the Zhalfir set to reimagine its people and places in an afro-fantasy lens, based on African cultures and mythology.

As Zhalfir is set to launch at the end of next year, not much is known about the set's individual characters and mechanics. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and like Nauctis — The Sunken Realm, Zhalfir is taking the game to places it has never been before, so it's going to be one of the most unique Magic: The Gathering sets from an aesthetic point of view. Zhalfir is the final mainline Magic: The Gathering set of 2027, hitting store shelves on October 1.

Universes Beyond Magic: The Gathering Crossover Sets Coming 2027

Wizards of the Coast has revealed that three Universes Beyond crossover sets are launching in 2027, with the first on April 9, the second on August 6, and the third on November 19. This doesn't factor in any Secret Lair crossover drops, which tend to be announced/released sporadically throughout the year.

Unfortunately, Wizards of the Coast hasn't announced what franchises will appear in the Universes Beyond sets. As of the time of writing, the last Universes Beyond set on the calendar is Star Trek, which launches November 13, 2026. Considering how amazing the crossovers in 2026 were, 2027 is going to have a hard time topping the likes of The Hobbit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Marvel Super Heroes. However, there are still plenty of awesome franchises in the world just waiting to be brought into Magic: The Gathering.
