A raccoon rescued from the water by two Texas fishermen is now going viral for the priceless way it said 'thank you.'
Tucker and Owen were fishing on their paddleboards at Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, when they first saw the raccoon, which they thought was a dog, struggling in the water. They wasted no time racing to the wild animal, who was incredibly exhausted and grateful for the helping hand.
Even though they were there to fish and film content, these young men stopped at nothing to help the raccoon struggling in the storm. It didn't matter to them whether it was a lost dog or a lost raccoon—all they knew was that an animal needed their help.
Watching the rescued raccoon tuck itself between its rescuers' legs could make anyone smile, but Tucker wrote to KXAN, "I couldn’t explain how that made me feel. We then got him over, and he ran off without another look, nibble, or sound."
Instagram user @leahgracecraig commented, "He said 'don’t you touch me!' and then be like 'can I, can just scootch in here please?'" The raccoon had a major change of heart once it realized the young men were there to help, and honestly, no one can blame it one bit.
Watching the animal dart off into the woods was both satisfying and anticlimactic. Just like @factsbyravee said, "Bro felt like Pi when Richard Parker just got off the boat and disappeared into the forest. Not even a goodbye. He was thankful, though."

Even though this raccoon was easygoing and grateful for the rescue, approaching a raccoon, or any wild animal, is usually not a smart idea. Raccoons who feel cornered may scratch or bite, which can put someone at risk of zoonotic illnesses like rabies.

Luckily for Tucker and his pal Owen, this raccoon was more terrified and exhausted than anything else. It trusted its new human friends when it needed help the most, and the story couldn't have had a happier ending. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
