Queen Camilla cannot resist a good fashion accessory, even when it is a piece strongly connected to King Charles’ former wife, Princess Diana.
Camilla has increasingly been seen carrying the Lady Dior handbag, an elegant but controversial detail in her public appearances.
The Lady Dior handbag was originally called Chouchou, and it was gifted to Princess Diana by former French first lady Bernadette Chirac. Diana immediately fell in love with the bag, and according to Tatler, “it quickly became her favorite fashion accessory. She carried it day and night, and after returning to London, she bought several more Dior models at Harrods.”
Princess Diana began carrying the handbag in 1995, and after she was frequently seen with it in public, Dior renamed it the Lady Dior in 1996 in her honor. The name was a tribute to the period when she was known as Lady Diana Spencer before marrying Prince Charles. She also carried the bag at the 1996 Met Gala, choosing a dark blue version that perfectly matched her dress.
Of course, the fact that Queen Camilla chose the Lady Dior handbag did not go unnoticed by royal family followers. While Princess Diana was still alive, then-Prince Charles had an affair with Camilla during the 1990s, despite still being married to Diana.
Charles and Diana divorced in August 1996
Charles and Diana divorced in August 1996, while Camilla divorced Andrew Parker Bowles a year earlier, in 1995. Charles and Camilla married in 2005.
When Camilla carried a Lady Dior handbag at Wimbledon two years ago, fans of the late princess strongly criticized her for it.
“Does this woman have even a little bit of shame?”
“She is mocking dead Diana too.”
“I don’t think this is mocking Diana, but rather that she still wants to be more like her.”
“Shameless behavior from the Queen.”
