The actress lost 27 kilograms using the popular drug Mounjaro, which she says permanently reduced her obsessive thoughts about food.
Director Penny Marshall once told her to lose weight, and Rosie gave her a sharp response.
After losing weight, she underwent a facelift because of excess skin and said it was an act of feminism.
Actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell has openly spoken about her struggle with weight and how the GLP-1 medication Mounjaro helped her during the process. O’Donnell started using the medication in 2023 because of type 2 diabetes, and over three years she lost nearly 27 kilograms, completely changing her relationship with her body and food.
"Mounjaro changed my life. I couldn't even pronounce it at first. I was amazed by how much it quieted the constant thoughts about food that had followed me throughout my entire life," the actress told People magazine.
Director told her she needed to lose weight
Rosie also recalled filming the movie "A League of Their Own", when director Penny Marshall told her she needed to lose nine kilograms.
"I said to her: 'You think I carry it around for fun, Penny?'" O’Donnell recalled.
Losing weight also changed her everyday experiences.
"It’s very strange to just buy a pair of jeans that fit. When I would do late-night, my biggest concern wasn’t my set; it was, did I look fat?."
After losing weight, she was left with excess skin on her face, which led her to undergo a "deep plane" facelift. She said the decision was in line with her feminist beliefs.
"The real power of feminism is that we decide what we do with our own bodies and when we do it," she concluded.
