Kensington Palace has released a new photo of Prince George to mark his 13th birthday.

The previously unseen image of the young royal was released as he became a teenager on Wednesday.

Sharing the snap to its social media pages, the palace – which is the official London residence of Kate Middleton and Prince William – said: ‘Happy 13th birthday, George!’ alongside a party popper emoji.

The picture was taken after last month’s Trooping the Colour by photographer Matt Porteous.

George is the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales and is the second in line to the throne.

He was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, at 4.24pm on July 22, 2013.

The future King will also be starting secondary school at Eton College in September, following in his father’s footsteps.

George has a striking resemblance to his dad at the same age.

The newly turned teen was last seen out with his family when he and 11-year-old Princess Charlotte joined their mum and dad in the royal box at Wimbledon.

He will now enjoy the summer holidays along with his siblings after finishing his time at Lambrook School, a private co-ed prep school in Berkshire.
