The Carolina Panthers suffered a significant setback Tuesday ahead of the 2026 NFL season after veteran right tackle Taylor Moton was diagnosed with blood clots in his lung.
Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reported the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, adding that Moton will miss the start of the regular season while receiving treatment.
“#Panthers standout RT Taylor Moton was diagnosed with blood clots in his lung and will miss the start of the 2026 NFL season.

He was immediately placed on blood thinners, is responding well to treatment and will be assessed daily by the team’s medical staff.”
The update represents a major blow for Carolina, which is looking to build on its breakthrough 2025 campaign. The Panthers finished 8-9 last season, earned a playoff berth and narrowly lost 34-31 to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card round.
Moton has been one of the franchise’s most dependable offensive linemen since being drafted in 2017. He is entering his 10th NFL season and was expected to remain a key protector for quarterback Bryce Young after earning an 80.9 overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus during the 2025 season, the second-highest mark of his career.
Panthers forced to lean on new tackles after Taylor Moton setback
Meirov later noted that Moton’s absence compounds an already difficult situation for Carolina’s offensive line.
“Significant loss for the #Panthers, who will also be without LT Ikem Ekwonu after he suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in January.
“Carolina drafted Georgia OT Monroe Freeling in Round 1 and signed former #Packers OT Rasheed Walker to a 1-year deal.”
With both starting tackle spots impacted, the Panthers are expected to rely heavily on first-round rookie Monroe Freeling and veteran Rasheed Walker as they attempt to keep Young protected until Moton is healthy enough to return.
