The South Carolina football team is expecting big things in 2026, after a disappointing 2025 season. South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was asked on Tuesday about arguably his team’s most disappointing game last year. That was the loss to Texas A&M, when his team blew a 30-3 lead and lost 31-30.
“Can we not?” Beamer replied when asked to talk about the game, per On3.
Many South Carolina fans expect Beamer to win in 2026, or be fired. The Gamecocks finished last season with a 4-8 record. South Carolina won just one game in SEC play.

Beamer knows his squad must do much better this coming year. He is feeling good about his 2026 group.
“I think with this group, they’ve been a very mature group since they came back in January. There are a lot of older guys on our team that have been around, and they know what they want to get done, and they’ve been very intentional about their work since January,” Beamer said, per On3.
South Carolina fans don’t want to think about that Texas A&M game either. Beamer has posted two losing seasons in the last three years. Heading into this season, he made a lot of coaching changes with his assistants.
“For us, it’s just continuing to work and stack days and continue to get better and better each day. [I] like the way this group is working and I’m proud of where they are right now,” Beamer added.
South Carolina football starts the 2026 season with a game on September 5 against Kent State. Time will tell how the Gamecocks perform this season on the football field.
Beamer has coached at South Carolina since the 2021 football season.
