'Chief of Station' is coming to Netflix after an underwhelming box office run.

Netflix has confirmed that Chief of Station will be joining its United States catalog on August 1, 2026, as part of the platform's monthly content rotation.

Originally released in 2024, Chief of Station stars Aaron Eckhart as a CIA operative stationed in Eastern Europe who finds himself roped into a deadly global conspiracy when his wife is killed in an apparent terror attack.

The film is directed by Jesse V. Johnson, who remains best known for his work on The Debt Collector and its immediate sequel, Debt Collectors. He was originally attached to Chief of Station alongside Alec Baldwin, but the latter was forced to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts, and Eckhart was brought on instead.

Chief of Station was given a limited theatrical distribution in January 2024, but failed to leave a noticeable dent at the box office. It brought in just $70,000 in select theaters across the United States, and made the majority of its money back through VOD purchases and rentals.

The film landed on VOD platforms such as Amazon Prime and Apple TV just a few weeks after its limited theatrical run, where it became a surprise favorite among at-home audiences. Eckhart's performance, Johnson's direction, and the film's overall gritty atmosphere were frequently cited in positive reviews.

The majority of reviews, however, were more mixed. The Guardian criticized the overreliance on genre tropes and derivative storytelling, writing: "In the absence of any feel for intrigue, Johnson shuffles a deck of espionage-film cliches largely at random – including frequent appearances for the card in which someone points out that, in this world, can you really know anyone?"

Despite the mixed reviews, Chief of Station was a hit among more casual viewers who appreciated its high-stakes narrative, bold characters, and unexpected twists. The film found plenty of success on VOD, and has since become even more popular since joining streaming.

Chief of Station will be available to stream at no extra charge for existing Netflix subscribers in the United States from August 1, 2026. Those who can't wait that long can also find the movie on Hulu or The Roku Channel until then.
