Nebraska’s future passing duo ranks among the nation’s best before teaming up.

Trae Taylor and Tay Ellis are two of the more hyped commits in Nebraska’s 2027 class in part because they already have one heck of a rapport off the field. This fall, they’ll be able to build some rapport on the field as both the quarterback and the receiver have transferred to Millard South as a way to prep for their days as Huskers.

There’s been plenty of talk about how good Millard South will be in 2027, and it’s hard for the program to be much better than it has been among Nebraska high school ranks in the last few years. Now, On3 High School analyst Andy Villamarzo has ranked the duo among the best QB/WR combos in the nation.

Villamarzo reportedly put the two Nebraska commits at the No. 6 combo. According to a recent On3 article, they were also the only pair committed to the same collegiate school. Some might believe that the 5-star quarterback is carrying that combo a good way, but Ellis has quite a bit of talent in his own right. Getting to catch passes from one of the best QBs in the 2027 class will certainly help put up some monster numbers.

Taylor's production speaks for itself. In 2025, the signal-caller completed 205 of 251 passes (81.7%) for 3,571 yards, on his way to ending the year with a 38-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also rushed 77 times for 633 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading Carmel Catholic (IL) to an 8-3 record and a trip to the second round of the Illinois Class 7A playoffs.

Fans definitely shouldn’t sleep on what Ellis can do, especially when considering what he did when he wasn’t catching passes from a 5-star quarterback prospect. Last year, he caught 65 passes for 808 yards and nine touchdowns. Across three varsity seasons in Texas, he totaled 156 receptions for 2,310 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Now Ellis and Taylor will hope to show what Nebraska fans can expect when they are both playing together in Memorial Stadium. It appears even national analysts believe they might give Nebraska high school fans quite the one-year show.
