The Cleveland Cavaliers remain focused on pursuing LeBron James, but another potential offseason move has emerged as the Charlotte Hornets have reportedly expressed interest in veteran guard Dennis Schroder.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Schroder has surfaced as a possible trade candidate while Cleveland continues to monitor multiple roster scenarios tied to its pursuit of James.

“Furthermore, while LeBron James remains atop their wish list, the Cavaliers have continued to keep tabs on Kuminga consistently. Amid Cleveland’s pursuit of both players, Max Strus and Dennis Schroder have come up as potential trade candidates.

“The Charlotte Hornets have been linked with interest in Schroder, league sources told HoopsHype. It’s worth noting that Hornets executive Jeff Peterson is said to still be a fan of Schroder dating back to their time together in Atlanta.”

The report indicates Cleveland is exploring ways to reshape its roster as it awaits clarity on James’ free agency decision. The four-time NBA champion has yet to announce where he intends to play during a record-setting 24th NBA season after departing the Los Angeles Lakers.

James has remained quiet throughout free agency. During Fanatics FanFest NYC last week, he declined to reveal his next destination after Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton attempted to get an answer during a live recording of Mind the Game. James later explained that his motivation for returning next season is his love of competition and his desire to continue inspiring younger players and members of his own generation.

Schroder joined the Cavaliers after being acquired from the Sacramento Kings in a midseason trade that also included Keon Ellis, who later signed with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. The 32-year-old has built a reputation as a reliable playmaker, veteran leader and capable defender over his lengthy NBA career.

For Charlotte, adding Schroder could strengthen a young backcourt featuring Coby White and Kon Knueppel while providing another experienced ball handler. Whether discussions advance may ultimately depend on Cleveland’s pursuit of James and other offseason targets, including unrestricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.
