The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the New York Mets by the score of 8-3 on Monday night. Jacob Misiorowski, Milwaukee’s two-time All-Star ace, made his first start in two weeks in his highly anticipated return to the mound. Previously, he had been scratched from his final start before the All-Star break, and did not pitch at all for the Brewers over the weekend.
Despite how handily Milwaukee won the game, Misiorowski only pitched four innings and threw 65 pitches. After the game, it was revealed that the team had planned for his start to be short. The reason for this was two-fold. First, it allowed them to ease him back into pitching after such a long time in between starts. Second, they want to preserve his arm so that he is ready for the MLB playoffs.

Misiorowski ended up throwing four innings while allowing four hits, a walk, and one unearned run. He also struck out six Mets batters.
On Tuesday, the Brewers announced their starters for their upcoming series against the Colorado Rockies over the weekend. Initially, it was believed that their ace would make his next start on Sunday. However, they are sending Brandon Sproat to the mound that day, and moving Misiorowski’s next appearance to Monday:
Sproat is pitching tonight, which means he will make two starts in between Misiorowski’s. This ensures that there will be exactly one week between the two-time All-Star’s starts.
While fans may want to see him pitch more often now, the Brewers are clearly doing their best to make sure that the young flamethrower is healthy come October. He is already approaching his career-high in innings, and is still just 24 years old.
After his appearance on Monday night, Misiorowski is 10-4 with a 1.57 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and 173 strikeouts.
