The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the top teams in the sport, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t areas of improvement on the roster. As the team has a young rotation, the team is reaching points where these starting pitchers have never pitched before in their professional careers. Let’s take a closer look at one of the team’s biggest questions as we are a few weeks from the trade deadline.

The Milwaukee Brewers need to answer what they will do with their starting pitching

Sports Illustrated’s Karl Rasmussen wrote an article in which he asked the biggest question for every World Series contender ahead of the trade deadline. For Milwaukee, the question was how the Brewers would respond to losing Brandon Woodruff for the remainder of the season. Below is what Rasmussen wrote:

“The Brewers’ pitching has carried them for much of the season, but the season-ending injury to Brandon Woodruff may force the team to reconsider its options at the trade deadline. It’s possible Milwaukee will roll the dice with its current ensemble of starters, but they may look to track down an experienced starter, perhaps one who has pitched meaningful October innings, to stabilize the group ahead of a potential push for the World Series.”

The loss of Woodruff is difficult, as he was finding his stride on the mound and now leaves them another pitcher short at a pivotal point of the season. However, they can address it by trading for some pitchers who are considered available.

As currently constructed, below is the current Brewers starting pitching staff:

・Jacob Misiorowski

・Logan Henderson

・Shane Drohan

・Robert Gasser

・Brandon Sproat

There are certainly spots where the Brewers need to improve in the rotation, especially as they get into postseason series. Adding another quality or veteran arm would certainly help the rotation as they reach innings they have not pitched before. Milwaukee does not want to completely overuse their bullpen either, and have pitchers like Lance McCullers Jr who could slide into a starting pitcher role if needed. It will be intriguing to see how the front office addresses a need for starting pitching before the trade deadline.
