Veteran forward Bobby Portis made his way to Miami as part of the blockbuster trade that landed Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier this offseason.
Now, the Heat reportedly have their eyes on another big-name NBA addition.
Miami is one of the leading contenders to land all-time great NBA superstar LeBron James in free agency. James, who won two championships with the Heat during his four-year stint from 2010-14, is weighing his options as he approaches his historic 24th NBA season.
During a recent appearance on “The Dan Le Batard Show,” Portis was asked to name his NBA “GOAT.”
“NBA GOAT? LeBron James. I’m a LeBron fan,” Portis replied. “We could argue all day. I’m arguing.”
ESPN’s Shams Charania has consistently reported the Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers as the leading frontrunners to land James. The Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves have also been floated in multiple reports.
On the day of his introductory press conference in Miami, Antetokounmpo was asked about the possible addition of James. In his response, the two-time league MVP echoed a similar sentiment as Portis.
“Everywhere he’s been, he’s won. If he believes the Miami Heat organization is a good decision for him and his family he should make that decision,” Antetokounmpo said. “He’s one of the greatest players to play this game if not the greatest.”
There’s currently no timetable for James’ decision, according to his agent, Rich Paul.
