The New York Mets have gotten off to a strong unofficial second half of their season, picking up two out of three games against the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. Still, the Mets are firmly behind the eight-ball in the NL East divisional race, sitting in last place by a wide margin with a record of 42-58.
With this being the case, many expect the Mets to be sellers instead of buyers at the upcoming MLB trade deadline, and one name that has come up repeatedly in trade discussions is that of pitcher Freddy Peralta.
However, recently, the team got a harsh reality check about Peralta’s trade interest, or lack thereof, around the league from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

“…while Peralta would typically be a coveted arm around the Deadline, the right-hander has been consistently inconsistent all season,” reported Feinsand. “…Peralta hadn’t completed six innings in a start in more than a month and may not be viewed as a frontline starter by contenders.”
Indeed, it’s difficult to see opposing teams having much faith in Peralta given his shaky performance for the Mets this season. Entering Sunday’s game against the Phillies, Peralta had posted a 6.05 ERA over his last ten starts and was 5-8 overall on the season. While some teams might theoretically bank on a positive regression to the mean, they’ll likely want to see signs of that starting to materialize before they part with significant assets in order to bring him in.
Peralta isn’t the only trade candidate on the Mets, with players ranging all the way up to star Francisco Lindor seeing their names come up in discussions. In any case, the MLB trade deadline is set for August 3 at 6:00 pm ET.
