Maddox is a Los Angeles-based actress and filmmaker. She served as an executive producer and co-director of My Grandfather Charles Manson.
She made her TV debut in an episode of Bunheads in 2012. She’s had roles in a number of shorts, her latest being Complicated Order in 2023.
At the beginning of the documentary, Maddox admitted that she’s a “struggling actress, babysitter, wannabe filmmaker. I work a bunch of jobs, and I have 50 bucks in the bank.”
Who is Sophia Maddox’s father?
Maddox’s father is Daniel Arguelles, a writer, actor, director, and singer. Arguelles and Maddox’s mother divorced when Maddox was young. Arguelles spent most of his life not knowing the identity of his father, so he sent his DNA to Ancestry in 2015. Seven years later, Arguelles found out he had a half-brother named Michael Brunner. That’s when he learned that his father is Charles Manson.
“It shattered our worlds,” Maddox said in the documentary. Arguelles’ mother, Darlene, had a brief fling with Manson, who went by the name Charlie Dear, after meeting at a bus station when she was 17. Arguelles was raised by his mother and stepfather. Arguelles’ mother never told her son the truth about his paternity.

At the end of the documentary, Maddox revealed how she got her last name. She explained that her father and Manson had to take on last names that were not their bloodline. Arguelles took his last name from his stepfather. Manson was born to Kathleen Maddox. Since he was born out of wedlock, Manson needed the name of a man. Maddox’s grandmother happened to be seeing a man whose last name was Manson around when her son was born. Maddox decided to legally take the last name of her grandmother.
Today, Maddox and her father aren’t on the best of terms. They haven’t seen each other since filming the documentary. “I hold space for whatever he needs to do for himself,” Maddox told People.
