Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon had a message to deliver.
After the mom of Kris Jenner—and grandmother to Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner—died on July 16 at the age of 91, Khloe shared the promise the matriarch had made to her grandchildren about their father, the late Robert Kardashian.
“I know Heaven welcomed you with open arms, surrounded by everyone who has been waiting to see you again,” Khloe captioned a July 19 Instagram post. “And I know you kept your promise, telling my daddy just how deeply we love him and how much we miss him.”
Robert died in 2003, when Khloe—the second youngest of his and Kris’ four children—was only 19.
But in addition to detailing MJ’s promise to pass a message to Robert, Khloe also reflected on the legacy her grandmother leaves behind.
“Thank you for showing us that life is meant to be celebrated, that laughter is healing, and that love is the greatest legacy we can leave behind,” the Good American co-founder wrote of MJ, who often appeared on the family’s reality series. “You lived so fully, so gracefully, and so beautifully.”

She also said one of her “greatest blessings” is that her and Tristan Thompson’s kids—8-year-old daughter True and 3-year-old son Tatum—got to know their great-grandmother and experience her hugs, joy, stories and the “the incredible light” MJ carried.
“You taught us that love never leaves,” Khloe added. “It lives on in the family you built, the traditions we’ll continue, the stories we’ll tell, and every time we choose joy. Your love will forever be woven into who we are.”
And in addition to her grandmother catching up with her former son-in-law, Khloe has a sweet vision of how she thinks MJ is enjoying her next chapter, including reuniting with her late husband Harry Shannon and late daughter Karen Houghton.
“I know you’re happy having your coke, tuna sandwich and graham crackers with papa Harry while Karen dances around you,” Khloe concluded. “Until we meet again, my sweet MJ!”
It was Kris who first shared the news of her mother’s passing, describing the deep bond they shared.
“Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely,” Kris wrote on Instagram at the time. “I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched.”
