Anson Mount on Joy Behar Kiss on ‘The View’ & His Wife’s Reaction

Anson Mount, while promoting the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, got quite the shock while on The View the day before the Thursday, July 23, premiere on Paramount+: As he walked out for his interview and greeted the cohosts, Joy Behar kissed him on the mouth, a moment that had everyone talking.

When Mount then stopped by TV Insider later in the day to talk Strange New Worlds and Captain Christopher Pike, we had to ask him about that moment.

“I asked my wife to promise me she wouldn’t divorce me. She thought it was hilarious,” he told us with a laugh. (Watch the video below.) “I think people just assume that I’m not around anymore because I have two young kids. I think maybe they were surprised to see that I’m still alive.”

“I’m old, but I’m not dead,” Behar quipped after, getting laughs from the crowd, as Mount wiped her lipstick off his lips. “I just need a little bit of a touch-up. Last time he was here, he brought me flowers for my birthday, and it’s never been the same between us.”

Mount recalled that last appearance on The View, 13 years ago.

“That was the last time I saw Joy Behar,” he said to us. “And I brought her flowers for her birthday, and I guess I made an impression. So, we’ll see what she does the next time.”

Mount was on The View to talk about Strange New Worlds, going into its penultimate season — it ends with the fifth and final one —and the franchise’s 60th anniversary this year. After Behar’s kiss, Whoopi Goldberg did try to focus on why he was there. That previous View experience came six years before Mount’s debut as Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, which was such a hit that it led to his spinoff currently airing.
