Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce has been one of the most controversial splits in Hollywood for multiple reasons. For starters, the duo is still fighting over Château Miraval, their French winery and estate. Then there’s the children, who keep dropping the “Pitt” last name from their names, including Vivienne.
According to People, another one of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children is taking steps to remove “Pitt” from their last name. Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the former couple’s youngest daughter, has filed a legal petition seeking to officially change her name, becoming the latest sibling to distance herself from the Pitt surname.
The court documents obtained by the publication show that she filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The reason for the name change has been listed as “personal”, and a hearing on the petition will be held on November 2.
As news spread online about Vivienne’s petition, many fans took to X and shared their views. Some remained confused and said, “Brad Pitt remained one of my favourite actors. I don’t know why Angelina Jolie and their children hate him so much, that they even want to change their last name.”
While some spotted a pattern, “Angelina is estranged from her dad and doesn’t want anything to do with to the point of changing her last name. Her kids are doing the exact thing to Brad. I am seeing a pattern here”
And others just blamed Angelina Jolie. One said, “I somehow think Angelina is just a manipulative person and she’s warped her kids minds.” Another said, “Angelina Jolie is a miserable human being who has turned her children against their father. She hates her former husband and her father. Something is wrong with her.” A third said, “Mothers who turn their children against their father, is a form of child abuse.”
One pointed out a crucial detail and said, “They kept his last name while they were getting tons of child support from him. But once they weren’t? They literally erased his name from theirs. Absolutely disgusting”
While some also sided with Jolie and the kids for the name change. One said, “6 of them. All adults. want nothing to do with him and people are still pointing the finger at Angelina Jolie. As if he isn’t a raving alcoholic.” Another added, “All your children dropping your name says a lot about you as a father”
The filing marks the latest development in a series of name changes involving the children of Jolie and Pitt. While Vivienne is now seeking to legally remove “Pitt” from her surname, she had already appeared professionally as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders in May 2024. The production was co-produced by Angelina Jolie, with her serving as her mother’s assistant on the project.
Vivienne is not the first of the former couple’s six children to change her last name. Shiloh successfully petitioned to remove “Pitt” from her last name in 2024, with the request being granted later that year. Meanwhile, Zahara has filed to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie, and Maddox is seeking to become Maddox Chivan Jolie. Both petitions remain pending, with hearings scheduled for later this year.
Seeing the kids drop their father’s last name, a source previously told the publication, “It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicize their successful alienation of their children from the other parent.”
