Marcellus Wiley is getting clear about the emotions he felt after his domestic arrest earlier this month.
Wiley was arrested in front of his three children on July 4 and called it “one of the most humiliating and heartbreaking experiences,” in divorce documents obtained by People. The former NFL player shares son Marcellus Jr., 10, and daughters Ariya, 7, and Alivia, 6 with his estranged wife, Annemarie Wiley. She filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage, two days after the alleged incident.
Marcellus described the day as normal as he was “spending time with my children, watching sports and enjoying the holiday” prior to the arrest.

“Nothing had occurred that morning that would have caused me to believe police had been contacted. I was completely surprised when law enforcement officers arrived,” he claimed in the documents.
“I was arrested in front of my children and others who were present,” the declaration continues. “It was one of the most humiliating and heartbreaking experiences of my life, particularly because I knew I had not abused my wife or my children.”
He was taken into custody released from Orange County Jail after posting a $1,000 bond, after being arrested for domestic battery, according to NBC.
In the divorce affidavit obtained by the outlet, Annemarie asked law enforcement to “remove her husband from their shared hotel room due to her being afraid of him.” She said that Marcellus “told [her] he was going to kill her and [she] was afraid of his behavior.”
Florida deputies concluded that the former NFL star “did intentionally touch [his wife] against her will,” and “that probable cause exists to charge [Wiley] with battery (domestic violence).”
The former NFL Pro Bowler spoke out on social media following the arrest, calling what Annemarie has shared about their marriage were “lies” and how he wants to protect his children.
“I love my children with everything I am. My highest priority has always been protecting them and preserving the relationship they have with both of their parents,” Marcellus began on X. “Because of the public allegations made against me by Annemarie, I have been forced to respond with evidence rather than emotion. More importantly, I owe it to my children to truthfully document what they and I have endured.”
Annemarie has not spoken out about his arrest or divorce at this time.
