MLB Insider urges Mets to move Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazobán at trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Mets do not have much to show for their 2026 MLB season so far, but they are grabbing attention of late because it is that time of the year again. As the Mets struggle to win games, they are once again mentioned in several MLB trade deadline conversations.
Some players have been brought up recently by MLB insiders Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of The New York Post as Mets assets who should be gone by the trade deadline. Tyrone Taylor, AJ Minter and Clay Holmes (player option), who all could be free agents by the end of the season, appear to be the likely trade candidates for New York, but Heyman thinks even Luke Weaver and Huascar Brazobán can be traded as well.
“I personally think they should trade the guys who, you know, have years to go as well, because they’re more helpful to a contending team,” Heyman said on The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.

“Isn’t Luke Weaver more valuable? Brazoban has a few years to go, but yeah, Luke Weaver has one more year to go. So he’s got one important year with the Mets, plus this year. And if he’s traded, he’s got two years with another team. They should be able to figure out a place to trade Weaver. And I think that’s true of Holmes as well.”
Weaver and Brazobán are a little bit more intriguing potential trade baits for New York. For one, the 32-year-old Weaver still has another year left on his contract, so there’s not exactly as much sense of urgency for the Mets to part with him.
Moreover, he has been doing well on the mound this season, entering Wednesday with a 1.98 ERA and a 0.805 WHIP through 39 appearances. Brazobán, on the other hand, has three arbitration-eligible years left, though he’s already 36 years old.
