Fans of the Portland Trail Blazers were shocked after team owner Tom Dundon gutted the broadcasting department in what is perceived to be another cost-cutting move by the multi-billionaire.
Among those who were laid off were TV hosts Neil Everett and Jamie Hudson, TV analyst Michael Holton, and statistician Tom Haberstroh. The Trail Blazers also announced that it will not simulcast the radio broadcast.
Amid the development, TV announcer Kevin Calabro has resigned, as reported by The Oregonian’s Joe Freeman.

“The team and its veteran play-by-play man had been in discussions on a new contract, but he called the offers ‘subprime,’ and he has decided to move on,” wrote Calabro on X.
Calabro took a subtle swipe at Dundon, who built his fortune off subprime auto loans. He has an estimated net worth of $2.3 billion. He also owns the Carolina Hurricanes.
Calabro, whose contract was up for renewal, told Freeman that he “feels great” about his decision, which could also be viewed as an act of solidarity with his axed colleagues. He added that he has a “couple of conversations” scheduled with other teams.
“I was grateful to have one of 30 jobs in the league and work so close to my home in Seattle. I’ll always be a part of Blazers history. I made some great memories and some great friends,” said the beloved play-by-play man.
In a statement, Dundon, who has become notorious for his frugality, claimed that he is trying to be “more efficient” in the Trail Blazers’ business operations.
Dundon is feuding with the city council over the renovation of Moda Center, as he has refused to spend a dime on it, asking taxpayers to shoulder the cost instead.
